02 / RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Better questions.
Stronger systems.

We see research as an engineering discipline that belongs throughout the product lifecycle, from the first question to every subsequent improvement.

Research begins with a real need

A meaningful security product starts with defining the problem clearly. Our research approach asks what information security teams need, where processes lose context and which decisions would benefit from greater clarity. We intend to draw our priorities from real use scenarios as well as developments in technology.

Planned areas of inquiry include classifying threat signals, presenting security information clearly and maintaining consistent context across different systems. We want to break each research topic into smaller, testable assumptions and use findings from prototypes to determine the next step.

Consider secure architecture from the start

We believe security needs to be considered from the design stage. Data flows, access boundaries, dependencies and failure conditions should all inform product architecture. Modularity, maintainability and clear areas of responsibility are among the principles we plan to apply when evaluating the future portal.

Turning a research result into a product requires more than making a function work. That function should also be understandable, maintainable and open to evaluation under different conditions. A cycle of prototyping, observation and refinement is therefore central to the development culture we intend to establish.

Turn information into meaningful decisions

Security teams face the challenge of distinguishing useful information from a large number of signals. For BlackNEST, we want to investigate an information experience that considers source, context and potential impact together. Automation should support expert judgment and make uncertainty visible.

User experience research is part of this work. Through clear screen hierarchy, consistent terminology and useful explanations, we aim to help people with different responsibilities interpret technical information. These topics describe research directions; they are not claims about released product capabilities or completed services.
